Originally
intented to be a cheaper replacement for the carriers but the
Falklands war proved different. With the carriers still in service they
served either as their intened role as LPDs or helicopter carriers in
the GUIK and northen routes. They often served as cadet traning ships
aswell. The Hertiginnan av Västergötland took part in the 1991
Operation Desert Storm and both ships served at diffrent times in
Adriatic with the NATO task force during the conflict in former
Jugslavia.
